Post referendum pub night - Friday 24th June 2016
POST-REFERENDUM PUB NIGHT: FRIDAY 24 TH JUNE 2016
Well Brexit it is! Who would have really have believed that when St. George’s arranged this Pub Night a few months ago. Friday 24 th June turned out to be quite a momentous day of course as the Referendum results flooded in. Our Pub Night was certainly not without plenty of discussion and strong views being expressed, naturally aided by copious amounts of beer and wine. We held our own Referendum Ballot with 70% of our attendees voting to Remain although there were certainly a few ‘Leavers’ who made their voices heard. The EU Quiz was undertaken enthusiastically by all but it did reveal just how little we all actually know about the EU – does anyone know when Europe Day is? We held a successful raffle and many thanks to everyone who generously bought tickets. Thank you very much to Bistro 33 for the catering and to all Bangkok St. George’s members who came along and brought their friends. We had seven new members join up which was brilliant. Altogether a good fun night with great company and a memorable one for lots of reasons.

AGM & Garden Party 14th November 2015
2015 AGM AND GARDEN PARTY
36 St. George’s members and guests attended our annual AGM/Garden Party held on Saturday 14th November at the British Club. We were particularly fortunate to have Kevin and Ann Hellon with us this year who currently live in Phuket. They are longstanding Committee members and run our website and administer the Ball tickets from afar so we were delighted to see them. In addition we welcomed Gale’s very lively family from the UK plus other visitors to Bangkok.
Events kicked off at 2pm with the AGM at which the 2015-2016 Committee was elected with Laura as President, John and Gale as joint Vice Presidents. Five new Committee members volunteered their services giving us a total of 15 Committee members this year which must be a record!
We managed to consume 25 bottles of wine plus a bit extra and 2 kegs of beer, so no one seemed to go thirsty and all was accompanied by a delicious curry buffet courtesy of the British Club who effortlessly seem to bring out extra food as required. We were even lucky with the weather; despite looking as if the heavens were about to open, the rain held off, the humidity dropped and it was very comfortable sitting outside for once.
Thanks to Gale, the Tombola was a great success (every ticket won a prize) and contributed over 5,500 baht to our Gift of Happiness donation. A special thank you to the British Club staff who bought so many tombola tickets and ended up bidding for the final booze items, include 2 bottles of wine and a large bottle of Baileys! We also want to thank the British Club for ulling out all the stops for us, and particularly to their hardworking staff for looking after us so well long after we were due to leave!
The wine flowed and conversation flowed for hours with the final guests departing around 10pm after a very enjoyable social event. A great day was had by all!

Taste of Thailand Tour - 21st June 2014
"What an amazing tour! Having lived in Bangkok for 2.5 years I was under the impression that I already knew a lot about Thai food ....but I was wrong. Whether you're new to Bangkok, just visiting or have lived here for a while, I would highly recommend this trip! The assault on the senses whilst taking this fun walking tour was marvellous, with new scents, new sights and new tastes. We meandered down by the river, drank Chinese tea (that would put hairs on anyone's chest) and explored the different regions of Thailand through its food. It's also great value for money as you leave with a very full belly! There was an opportunity to learn more about this wonderful city with our friendly guides (Jacob and Pu) giving us snippets of information about this amazing city. All in all a great, and yummy, experience!!"
St George's Ball 2014
THE BANGKOK ST GEORGE'S SOCIETY 52nd ANNUAL BALL
The English will always jump at any opportunity to feel extremely English...and this year’s Annual Ball was no exception! With an amazing turnout our guests enjoyed an absolutely stunning performance by the Royal Thai Army Band, with the peak of the performance being the Thai and British national anthems.
Be England what she will, … with all her faults she is my country still

We were honoured to have the Gurkhas with us who kindly presented our outgoing President Abigail Evans, and our current President Robert Rose, with gifts from Nepal. An unexpected honour! We were also extremely proud to pay tribute to Madam Gale Bailey MBE for her charity work in Thailand. Beautiful flowers were awarded to Gale Bailey, Helen Couldrey, Abigail Evans and Ann & Kevin Hellon for their dedication in organising the event.
The Unicorn Girl Band played an amazing set, followed by our fabulous DJ, Billy V. The whole evening was flawlessly presented by our MC Paul Jackson who did a sterling job. All in all, an amazing evening beautifully hosted, yet again, by the amazing team at the Amari Watergate Hotel.
