The Annual St. George's Ball 2013

Last year was a spectacular event with nearly 300 people attending our Ball at the Amari Watergate, Bangkok. The event was sponsored by Conerstone, RSM Advisory, Harrow International School, PCS and Central Food Hall plus many other companies that supported our Charity Raffle, which raised enough money to make significant contributions to Thai charitable causes.

As with every year, our event started with a bubbly reception with free flowing sparkling wine, a chance to have a free professional photograph and listen to the Royal Thai Army Band string quintet. All our guests were greeted on arrival by The Ghurkhas who are usually manning the British Embassy!

Her Majesty's British Ambassador to Thailand Mr Mark Kent and his wife Martine were in attendance as were the heads of the other British Loyal Societies. Our Baron of Beef Ceremony kick-started the evening with a grand parade through the Ballroom accompanied by the Ghurkhas. Mr Kent was invited up to taste the Beef and declare it fit for our feast! A very traditional ceremony for St George's Society events across the world.

The evening was action packed with ping pong balls being thrown around the room by Nell Gwynn during the entrance of the Baron of Beef cast (traditionally this is oranges but we added the 'Thailand Touch'!). Spot prizes were given to recipients of 'lucky balls'. The prizes didn't stop there, we had over 40 raffle prizes and each guest was given an engraved glass to take home.

We were entertained by the magnificent Royal Thai Army Band who facilitated the traditional English singalong with songs such as Land of Hope and Glory and Jerusalem. We had local expat band Superbad plus DJ Billy V to help us dance off the immense 5 course dinner. Port and Stilton finished off our dinner and there was even a breakfast for those still standing at 1am! Many people were still enjoying the evening after 3am!

The Amari Ballroom was decorated beautifully in the red and white colours of England and we even had a 'St George's Pub' in one corner where of course we had to display the Premier League Football games.

Due to its huge success we will be returning to the Amari Watergate again this year! Don't miss out and book your tickets now!
