New President's Message 2015-2016

Dear Loyal Member and Supporters,

I am delighted and honoured to have been elected as President of the Bangkok St. George’s Society for the coming year.  I would first like to say a huge ‘thank you’ on behalf of the Society to Helen who has stepped down as President and has done a fantastic job whilst having to run the Society from her temporary desk in London over the past few months.

Despite living in Asia for most of the past 30 years, I have retained very close ties with England which is still very much home to me.   I was born in London at Charing Cross to be precise (the hospital not the station) and worked in the City for many years and we still maintain a home near central London which I visit a few times every year.   I am passionate about many things English and immensely proud of our heritage and being part of a Society which celebrates ‘Englishness’ is very special to me.

We are fortunate yet again in having another wonderful Committee for 2016, many of whom have done a huge amount over the years to support the Society; in fact four members are Past Presidents.  We are incredibly lucky in having two Vice Presidents this year - John Hocking and Gale Bailey.  Also remaining on the Committee are Helen Couldrey, Robert Rose, Kevin and Ann Hellon, Carole Ann Eastgate, Paul Jackson, Ray Bloom and Abbie Evans.  We also welcome the following new Committee members: Sue Steel, Martin Smith, Andy Lewis, Ghaff Khan and Hasan Khan.    Between us there is a wealth of experience and expertise in many different fields and I am eternally grateful to everyone for volunteering their services to support Bangkok's ‘English’ Society.

We have a couple of events already lined up, the most important being:

ST. GEORGE'S 54TH ANNUAL BALL
on SATURDAY 23RD APRIL, 2016.

This of course falls on St. George’s Day itself which is rare and so promises to be a rather special occasion so please Save the Date.   In the meantime, many thanks to everyone for all your loyal support in the past and we look forward very much to seeing you over the coming year.

For England, the Queen and St. George

Laura Smith
President
BANGKOK ST. GEORGE’S SOCIETY
